5-Day Tour to Ouzina
Day 1: Ouarzazate
We will meet you and introduce you to your guide who will stay with you throughout your tour. You will spend some time with him getting to know Ouarzazate, the capital of the South and gateway to the Pre-Sahara. This is where travellers traditionally prepare for journeys into the desert.
Ouarzazate is inhabited predominantly by Berbers who constructed many of the prominent kasbahs and buildings for which the area is known.
You will have dinner and spend the night in your hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate - Ouzina
After a relaxed breakfast we will set off towards Ouzina, travelling through the verdant Draa Valley and the oasis of the same name. We will stop near Agdz to give you the opportunity to take photos of the panoramic view and the lush vegetation contrasting with the vivid blue sky.
We’ll continue towards Zagora where we will make a further stop to visit the huge palm grove, the largest in all Morocco, which is famous for its production of dates.
Next we will pick up the route of the famous Paris-Dakar Rally, crossing the arid yet fascinating desert landscape where we will discover small Berber settlements constructed using traditional methods and materials.
Finally we will arrive in Ouzina where we will find the Porte de la Sahara, a haven of peace and tranquility where we can enjoy a well-deserved rest. Dinner and overnight stay at the auberge.
Day 3: Ouzina
After breakfast we will take a walk to the small town of Ouzina, which is just 2km away across the desert. There you will be able to buy typical Berber products and enjoy a delicious Berber pizza and the hospitality of your guide, M’hammed’s, family. If you wish, you can have a natural henna tattoo in a traditional Berber design.
We will return to the auberge in the afternoon and mount our camels to make a short trip across the Ouzina desert to watch the sunset behind the dunes.
At night we will return to the auberge where we will spend the night in an authentic Berber jaima (tent).
Day 4: Ouzina - Todra Gorges
In the morning, and after a leisurely breakfast, we will set off for Tinghir, the city at the mouth of Todra Gorges.
First we will stop to view some cave paintings before continuing on to Khamlia, whose population originated in Mali from where they were taken as slaves. These people will show us aspects of their culture through dance and their Gnaoua music.
Our next stop will be in Rissani which is the capital of the Tafilalet region, to visit the souq and the well-known animal market.
We will continue through the Ziz Valley until we arrive at Erfoud, where we will visit a fossil quarry and see how these fossils are turned into real works of art such as beautiful tables, wash basins, decorative ornaments, etc.
When we arrive at Tinghir we will stop for you to take photos of one of the most beautiful oases in the country. Travellers are always impressed by this landscape.
Next we will continue to Todra Gorges where you will have dinner and spend the night in your hotel.
Day 5: Todra Gorges - Ouarzazate
After breakfast in your hotel we head towards the impressive Todra Gorges, passing through a particularly beautiful landscape which is a series of verdant oases fed by the river Todgha.
As we get closer, the valley narrows. The river has carved a gorge leaving impressive, vertical walls up to 160m high. The walls attract many climbers while the majority of visitors enjoy the cool shade and clear waters.
We continue our journey passing through the Valley of Roses, so called because of its production of roses and their use in the production of cosmetics, soaps, perfumed oils, facial and body creams, etc.
On our arrival in Ouarzazate we will visit a film studio where they have shot many famous films such as Cleopatra, Gladiator, etc.
In the afternoon we will visit the famous Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou which is one of the best preserved Kasbahs and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Finally we will return you to Ouarzazate, either to your hotel or the airport, depending on your future plans.
