4-Day Tour to Ouzina via Zagora & Todra Gorges
Day 1: Marrakech – Zagora
We leave Marrakech in the morning and cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi N’Tichka, a settlement at 2,260m above sea level. The scenery is spectacular and there will be ample photo opportunities.
We will stop at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou which is famous for its solid construction and for being the backdrop for many internationally famous films. It has been very well preserved and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
From Ait Ben Haddou we continue through the Dades Valley towards Zagora where we will mount camels to travel into the sand dunes. You will be served a traditional Berber dinner under the star-filled sky, before spending the night in your jaima (tent).
Day 2: Zagora – Ouzina Desert
After rising early to see the sunrise over the desert we will return to the hotel with the camels. There will be time to have breakfast and take a shower before setting off on the next step of our journey which is to follow the off-road track of the Paris-Dakar Rally as far as Ouzina.
You will have dinner and spend the night at the Auberge just outside Ouzina.
Day 3: Ouzina Desert – Todra Gorges
After a leisurely breakfast we continue towards Todra Gorges which is close to the town of Tinghir, situated at the mouth of a valley of palm groves, dotted with villages constructed of adobe and surrounded by steep, barren mountain slopes. This location is one of the most famous in Morocco for its outstanding natural beauty.
In places the gorge is only 10m wide while the walls are 160 m high. It is a popular venue for locals wishing to escape the heat of the sun while youngsters play in the shallow, clear waters.
You will have dinner and spend the night in your hotel in Todra Gorges.
Day 4: Todra Gorges – Marrakech
Following breakfast in your hotel we will travel to Dades Gorge with its canyons and winding roads. En route we will pass through Berber villages such as Boutaghar and Skoura, the latter of which is surrounded by verdant palms.
In the afternoon we will once again cross the High Atlas Mountains and will stop en route to visit the Argan Oil Women’s Co-operative. Here the women will explain how the oil is produced and you can see some of the numerous products in which it is used.
Finally, after descending the mountains, we return to Marrakech.
